Therapy Overview

A Neuromuscular Specialist is an advanced licensed therapist that specializes in integrating multiple corrective tissue therapies. The therapies are designed to evaluate and identify dysfunction in the muscular and nervous systems. The objective is to address muscular imbalances, nerve entrapments, joint range of motion and stability, scar tissue, adhesions and chronic pain. Neuromuscular treatments, physical therapy, personal training, Pilates and other rehabilitative therapies will be more effective when combined to provide optimal results.

We offer the following therapies…

Active Release Techniques

Active Release Techniques (ART) treatment is a hands-on touch and case-management system that allows a practitioner to identify and treat soft-tissue injuries. Soft tissue refers primarily to muscle, tendon, fascia, and nerves. Specific injuries that apply are repetitive strains, adhesions, tissue hypoxia, and joint dysfunction.

Deep Tissue Therapy

Deep-Tissue Therapy utilizes slow strokes, direct pressure or friction applied across the grain of the muscles with the fingers, thumbs or elbows. Deep-tissue therapy works deeply into the muscles and connective tissue to release chronic aches and pains; as well as treating inflammation and injury. Its purpose is to reach the fascia beneath the surface muscles.

(Therapists must have a thorough understanding of the human body and have been trained to administer deep-tissue therapy, as injury can occur if the technique is not performed properly).

Muscle Activation Technique

Muscle Activation Techniques (MAT) treats muscle tightness as a form of protection in the body. Weak muscles can create the need for other muscles to tighten up in order to help stabilize the joints. MAT gets to the root of the pain or injury by addressing muscle weakness rather than muscle tightness. This helps to restore normal body alignment, thereby, decreasing pain and reducing the risk of injury.

Neuromuscular Therapy

Neuromuscular Therapy (NMT) is the utilization of static pressure on specific myofascial points to relieve pain. This technique manipulates the soft tissue of the body (muscles, tendons, and connective tissue) to balance the central nervous system. In a healthy individual, nerves transmit impulses to the body very slowly. Injury, trauma, postural distortion or stress speeds up their transmission, inhibiting equilibrium and making the body vulnerable to pain and dysfunction. It is therefore necessary to stabilize low levels of neurological activity to maintain normal function and overall health.

Orthopedic and Medical Therapy

Orthopedic and Medical Therapy involves therapeutic assessment, manipulation and movement of locomotor soft tissues to reduce or eliminate pain and dysfunction. A unique multidisciplinary approach is utilized to restore structural balance throughout the body. This results in the prevention and rehabilitation of musculoskeletal dysfunctions, chronic pain and sports injuries. The therapy is performed with the intent to improve those medical conditions or pathologies that have been diagnosed by a physician. A wide variety of modalities or procedures will be utilized to focus on the treatment based on the diagnosed condition.
